AI Home
the Box AI Home setting: a full-page Box AI workspace that searches all the content a person can access
A full-page workspace where the Box Agent answers questions, summarises, researches and drafts across files, folders and Hubs, keeping a session history. Box: “After you submit your request, the Box Agent searches through all content accessible to you through permissions and collaboration settings and provides a response to which you can continue to work on, or clear to begin again.” It is the same Box AI people use in Preview, Notes, Hubs and Files — Box switches each place separately, so this setting covers the workspace only. A Pro Mode, for deeper reasoning, is available on some plans.
Box AI
the Files setting: questions, summaries and drafts on files in preview and in Box Notes
Answers questions about, summarises and drafts from the files people open in Box: in a sidebar beside a file preview, across several selected files at once, and inside Box Notes. Box: “The file you're previewing automatically serves as a source.” People can add other files, folders or a Hub to widen what it reads, and can insert its output straight into a note. The same setting runs AI search inside Box Apps, where a plain-language request picks an app’s filters.
Box AI for Hubs
the Hubs setting: questions and summaries across the files in a Hub
Answers questions and summarises across the files in a Box Hub, with citations to the text it used. Box: “Box AI pulls information from the files in the Hub you are viewing.” It uses only content the person asking can access.
Box Extract
the Extract setting: AI agents that pull data out of files and save it as metadata
Custom Extract Agents use large language models to read the files in the folders they are attached to and save the data they find as metadata on those files, working through each folder automatically once active. Box: “Once configured, users can attach a limit of 10 source folders to the Custom Extract Agent, extract structured data, and apply it as metadata to any file.” People can review and edit the extracted metadata, and an agent can be set to overwrite values already there.
Box AI Studio
the AI Studio setting: custom AI agents your organisation builds
Lets agent creators build custom AI agents with their own instructions, files and Hubs attached as knowledge, and a chosen AI model, then offer them to people in AI Home, Files and Hubs. Box: “Custom instructions shape how your agent behaves including its reasoning style, communication norms, and task approach.” Pro Mode, which uses higher thinking levels, is on by default for every custom agent.
Box AI for Slack
under Official Box Integrations: answers about Box files shared in Slack
Answers questions about Box files shared in Slack channels and threads, or in a private assistant chat, and lets people post its answers into the channel. Box: “Box AI does not have access to Slack messages in the conversations between users in Slack channels or threads.” Box warns that a posted answer can be seen by channel members who cannot open the files it drew on. It needs the Box for Slack integration.
AI Classification
Box Shield: labels files by what they contain
Reads the text of files, and whole images, and applies the security classification label that best matches the descriptions an admin writes for each label, recording its reasoning on the file. Box: “Box AI Classification helps to assess and classify your content, applying the appropriate classification label automatically.” Once enabled it runs on its own as files trigger classification events, and it can be set to overwrite labels already on a file.
AI Threat Analysis
Box Shield: summaries of security alerts, for admins
Writes a short plain-language summary of a Box Shield threat alert for the admin viewing it, saying why the alert was raised, and generates it afresh each time the alert is opened. Box: “Admins can enable Box AI to analyze alerts generated by a specific detection rule.” It is off by default.
Anomalous Download detection rule
Box Shield: machine learning that flags people downloading unusually
Watches each person’s downloads and alerts Shield admins when someone’s download behaviour changes, especially compared with their peers — for example someone taking far more sensitive content than usual. Box: “It monitors user activity and leverages Box machine learning to identify anomalies in download behavior, generating alerts when users have changed their download behavior, especially in comparison to their peers.” It covers managed and external users; the person is not told, and no restriction is applied.
Ransomware Activity detection rule
Box Shield: machine learning that flags signs of ransomware
Looks for signs that a person’s device is encrypting files in Box, as ransomware does, and alerts Shield admins, who can then recover the affected content. Box: “It monitors user activity and leverages Box machine learning to identify suspicious file extensions that may be indicative of a ransomware attack.” If an admin turns it on, Box Shield ends all of the user’s active sessions the moment an alert is raised, without waiting for anyone to investigate; that setting is off by default.
