Sage Copilot variance detection

Sage Copilot compares each pay run with the last one, flags employees whose gross or net pay changed beyond a set limit and suggests possible causes

When a pay run is processed, Copilot compares each employee's gross and net pay with the previous pay run and picks out changes beyond a limit the business sets, as a percentage or a fixed amount in pounds. The confirm step shows how many insights were found; opening them lists the employees affected with last and current pay and the size of the change, and for each one Copilot offers possible causes; the list can be exported as PDF or CSV. The user decides whether to carry on with the pay run or go back and make changes. Sage says Copilot uses generative AI, and the feature is available on some plans.

Automated Pay Runs

scheduled pay runs that Sage Copilot monitors and, if no issues are found, completes on its own, including payslips and the submission to HMRC

Once switched on, Sage Payroll runs the payroll on a completion date chosen in advance, using the current set-up. Before that, on a summary date, it sends a preview of everyone's pay with errors, warnings and information alerts, and Sage says Copilot monitors the run and reports its status in the Insights panel. If there are no errors, the pay run completes without anyone pressing a button: payslips are published and emailed, the Full Payment Submission goes to HMRC, salary journals are posted and a report pack is emailed; an error stops the run, while warnings do not. Paying the salaries themselves is not automated and still needs a person to authorise it.
